TYPES OF PRESENT TENSES - PRESENT SIMPLE

Present Tenses - Something that is happening right now.

Present Simple - Same as above. Something happening right now.

Present Simple Rule

Subject + V1 + s/es + Object

- In the present simple tense, when the subject (or person you are talking about) is he, she, or it, you add an -es to verbs ending in -sh, -ch, -s.
Example -
  • Pass -- Passes
  • Finish -- Finishes
- we put -ies to verbs ending in "Y".
  • Study -- Studies
  • Try -- Tries
Always use -s, -ies, and -es to verbs when using subjects like he/she/it in a sentence of present simple.
Take Note
  • Do - Does  (use "do" with I/we/they/you and "does" with he/she/it)
  • Go - Goes  (use "go" with I/we/they/you and "goes" with he/she/it)
  • Has - Have (use "have" with I/we/they/you and "has" with he/she/it)

Examples of Present Simple

  1. He reads the daily times newspaper everyday.
  2. She works late night on weekends.
  3. It does the splendid work.
  4. They watch the film together.
  5. We do the homework together.
  6. I have a big house.
  7. I like watching film with my family.
Explanation of Present Simple
  1. Every sentence is made of three components -
  2. subject + verb + object
  3. The rules of every tense is easy to understand and learn. the difference lies in the verb form (i.e., 1st form, 2nd form, and 3rd form). In present tense, the verb is either singular or plural as per the subject (or the person you are talking about or the first person).
  4. With any singular subject or pronouns, we use singular verb or with only (-s) or simply write the verb as it is. With plural subject or pronouns, we use plural verbs (-es).
  5. We use present simple for the things happening right now/happening at sometime/true in general.
  6. For Example -
  • He always arrives office late in the morning.
  • We often stay out of such things.
  • For generally true facts that we have noticed or seen for anyone, we use always/never/often/usually/sometimes.
Where to put (-s) and where to put (-es) ---
There are certain rules to take care of while making plural words. So, taking that into account, we use (-s) or (-es) for the main verb of the sentence.
Example - He likes big cities. (here, he is singular person or the person we are talking about and the verb is also singular)
  • The shop opens daily in the evening. (singular subject with singular verb)
  • He eats the lunch before the lunch break in the school. (singular subject with singular verb)
  • These shops open daily in the evening. (plural subject with plural verb)
  • They eat the lunch before the lunch break in the school. (plural subject with plural verb)
