Present Tenses
(a) Present Simple- Something happening now.
(b) Present Continuous - something happening and still running now.
Examples of Present Simple (Positive sentences)
- I work.
- She wears a beautiful dress.
- It rains.
- We all play in the park together.
- We eat together for tonight.
- I go to work.
- I work on it everyday.
- She sits with him on the same chair.
- I wash my clothes.
- I read a newspaper.
Examples of Present Simple (Negative sentences)
- I do not work.
- She does not wear a beautiful dress.
- It does not rain.
- We all do not play in the park together.
- We do not eat together for tonight.
- I do not go to work.
- I do not work on it everyday.
- She does not sit with him on the same chair.
- I do not wash my clothes.
- I do not read a newspaper.
Present Continuous
☔ It is raining outside. The sun is not shining.
🏃 The boy is running. He is not staying at home.
💁🥘 The lady is cooking in the kitchen. She is not sitting in the room.
Rule of Present Continuous
Present Continuous is ---
is/am/are (linking verbs) + verb (action words) + ing.
I am (or not / I'm not) V1+ing I am working on the laptop.
I'm working on the laptop.
I'm not working on the laptop.
FOR SINGULAR LINKING VERBS - we use "is"
He/She/It (singular linking verbs) is (or not) V1 + ing.
He is eating food. (He is not / isn't eating food.)
She is writing a letter. (or she is not writing a letter).
It is a ringing phone. The phone is ringing. The phone isn't ringing.
FOR PLURAL LINKING VERBS - we use "are"
You/We/They (plural linking verbs) are (or not) V1 + ing.
We are listening to you (positive present continuous sentence). We are not listening to you. (negative present continuous sentence)
They are listening to me. They are not listening to me.
You are listening to me. You are not listening.
Examples of Present Continuous
- I am working so do not make noises.
- She is wearing a beautiful dress.
- It is not raining and the weather is nice.
- All are playing in the park.
- We are eating together for tonight.
- I'm not going to work on it.
- I'm not working on it.
- She is not sitting with him on the same chair.
- I am washing my clothes.
- I am reading a newspaper.
